My fifth question that I wanted to answer was how much money do colleges pay their staff for there college teams? I found out in this hurt economy college coaches are getting paid way more then in other years. According to, "USA Today's latest study of compensation reveals that Tedford is one of at least 25 college head football coaches making $2 million or more this season, slightly more than double the number two years ago. The average pay for a head coach in the NCAA's top-level, 120-school Football Bowl Subdivision is up 28% in that time and up 46% in three years, to $1.36 million." This is a really bad thing that I found out in my research and i think with this money that coaches are getting this money can go to the college athletes that make the colleges all the money.

My third question was do the colleges give back to the community with the money they make off college sports? As I learned from doing research I found out that colleges give a lot of scholarships to not only the student athletes but they also give a lot of academic scholarships to. Colleges also do a lot of things to find their students jobs. My fourth question was how much do the major conference schools make each year? I found out that the schools from the six major conferences make about $31 million dollars each. The total revenue topped over $2 billion dollors last year for the first time.

My first question was how much do colleges make of winning a national championship? Well i figured out the Texas winning the national championship was the biggest sports profit in college sports history. They had $87 million of revenue that came into the university of Texas and they had a overall $65 million profit after expenses. My second question was how much do colleges make off selling jerseys? Well I found out that there is a huge price difference if you are a huge sports fan and you want to pay $155 for replica jersey or if you are just a casual sports fan you can buy a regular jersey for $55. There was a case earlier this year with a college athlete named A.J. Green and he sold one of his game jerseys for $1000 and was suspended. If everyone is profiting from the sales of A.J. Green’s jerseys it must also profit the college that A.J. Green goes to, the University of Georgia.

Since Texas had $87 million of revenue and had over $65 million of profit after expenses during the 2008 season. That is a lot of money that the colleges have left over, and they don’t have any money that they could give their college athletes?

This is very interesting that a replica jersey cost $155. If everyone is profiting from the sales of A.J. Green’s jerseys it must also profit the college that A.J. Green goes to, the University of Georgia.

This graph show how much colleges are making of the bowl championship revenue. The revenue for the BCS Championship has gone way up in the  about of money that they are getting since 1984. The antipathy that I have agianst colleges not paying college athletes money. I think that colleges can create a policy to give college athletes that bring so much revenue into each college that goes to a bowl game.

This quote from Chris Isidore is very interesting to me because the the rate of money that these schools bring in each year is getting larger and they cant give any money to the college athletes that earn most of the money for them. If they made $31 million dollars in profit I think that there is a great deal of money left over and I think they can create a policy to give these college athletes money for making there school a lot of revenue.

This is the perfect example of how much money colleges make of winning the BCS championship. This graph shows that in 2008 The University of Texas took in $87 million in revenue and had a profit of $65 million. This is the firth time that Texas has topped in revenue and profit ranks. They have made the most money five out of six seasons. I think this is the perfect example of why colleges can give their college athletes a part of the revenue that they bring in for their school.

This quote is telling me that the smaller schools like TCU and Boise State are not getting as much profit as the larger conference schools. I think that this is one of the reasons why they cant pay every single athlete for playing college sports. Although, if these schools make it to the BCS Championship I think they will make a good profit for a smaller non-BCS conference school and these players that won the championship for them should be rewarded.

What I want to know about my topic

As I choose my topic, I know some information about the college sports world, but I want to know a lot more about were all the income that come into the schools go. Have you ever wanted to learn about what really goes on with all the money that colleges make of their sports teams? Right now- my essential question is “what do the colleges do with the money that they make of all of their jerseys, ticket sales, and national championships? To find out how what I want to know I am going to have to find out some other specific details.

How much money does the college make of winning a national championship?
How much does each college make of selling jerseys yearly?
Do colleges give back to the community with the money they make off college sports teams?
How much of the college income goes to the staff of the teams?
How much do colleges make of the ticket sales of games at their stadium?

What I already know about college sports

I know that the college sports world have alot of money that comes in and out of it. There are alot of colleges and alot of college athletes. The college athletes do not get paid for playing for there school and making colleges a lot of money.  The colleges make alot of money off the primetime tv games, selling jerseys, and selling tickets to the games. If your school wins a national championship they get a lot of imcome that comes into the school. I know that these colleges are doing alot of things to make alot of money off there college sports teams. I learn alot about the college sports world from watching espn and seeing what is going on with different teams and the things that people are getting in trouble for. I learn a lot of what I know from following reporters that know a lot about college sports on ESPN.

Story behind my topic choice

The story behind the reason why I choose my topic is because I feel it is a big topic evolving in the college sports world. If the colleges are making so much money off the games being on primetime television, selling jerseys, and wining national championships. I think that these colleges should give the college athletes a little money so that there is not scandals like the one at the University of Southern California were Reggie Bush was getting benefits and that cost the university to be ineligible to go to any bowl games for the next two years. If the college students are in class and they have to always practice for their sports that they play and don’t have time to work so I think that they should get paid some money that they are making the college by wining national championships and make the college millions of dollars.
